It was a trip to Westerham for BAGS on Sunday for what is traditionally a tough game.

The opening 5 minutes showed the two teams were evenly matched, they were organised and both had players that showed decent touches and moments of skill. Neither team had been able to create a clear cut chance during this time but on 6 minutes a BAGS mistake at the back let Westerham in. A throw from the right back to the keeper bounced awkwardly and the clearance fell to a Westerham player who finished really well to lash the ball home. Then a couple of minutes later Westerham went 2 ahead after beating the offside trap leaving the attacker with just the keeper to beat. The rest of the half was pretty much the same as the first 5 minutes, both teams trying their hardest but generally cancelling each other out and making chances hard to come by. There were a couple though, BAGS had a free-kick on 12 minutes that went straight to the Westerham keeper, who dropped it but the BAGS player could not control the shot. On 26 minutes another BAGS mistake at the back allowed Westerham in leaving them one on one with Woody but this time he was equal to it saving with his legs. On 30 minutes there was a moment of class from George when the ball dropped to him on the edge of the Westerham area, he shifted it right and struck it superbly to the keepers left. 2-1 at half-time and the team talk would be a little easier.

Very similar game in the 2nd half with chances to both sides, first of which fell to Westerham. With their player bearing down on goal and about to shoot Caleb, who had been busting a gut to get back, put in a great last ditch sliding challenge. On 15 minutes after some good work by Jacob, Leon was able to get a shot in which curled just wide of the post and a couple of minutes after that Jacob provided a cross from the right which George couldn’t quite get enough purchase on to send the ball towards goal. On 26 minutes a period of Westerham pressure saw a looped ball in squirm out of the keepers grasp and towards goal but thankfully James was on the line to clear it away. Woody then made another save from a one on one situation with the Westerham forward striking the ball early from the edge of the box but Woody was able to get his hands to it. With time running out BAGS had a corner on Westerhams left, it was a good delivery and the ball dropped in the box at Jacobs feet but it wouldn’t sit down quick enough which made the shot hard to control and ended up with it going over the cross bar. BAGS were desperate for a goal to even the game up and were committing players forward, this was understandable but dangerous and ended up with Westerham adding a 3rd in the dying moments.

Boys were unlucky not to get something out of the game, certainly no lack of effort and determination after going behind. Keep going the way they are, learn from those mistakes, and the results will come.
