First of all congratulations to the boys who, barring friendlies, registered their first ever league win.
In recent weeks, our nervous start to games has cost us early goals but not this time. We were strong and fully concentrated from the start and as predicted, we grew into the game. On a heavy pitch we had our full squad of 11 available and everyone played their part, even the substitutes throughout the game getting behind the team and shouting encouragement.
Our passing at times was as sublime as our tackling was firm. We also showed a real positional awareness and tactically were very sound.
After a strong start, we got our deserved reward with Jack slotting home neatly for the first goal. It looked from that point onwards we had the momentum with us even though we had to cover some dangerous breaks. But, probably our only mistake in the whole match came at just the wrong time, a failed clearance allowing Coulsdon to grab an equaliser before the interval.
Our first half performance though was tremendous and we should have had more goals to our name. Sam showed his versatility with a fine performance in midfield and Henry showed that he can play anywhere when asked to do a job. Daniel came on at the back and was his usual reliable self making several good tackles.
At half time, Luke took over in goal from Dominic and Dominic immediately had an impact with some blistering runs down the left. He was unlucky not to score.
With the second half underway, Freddie got a second when our early pressure paid off and Max made it a bit more comfortable with the third finishing off a neat move and cross by Ryan V who again was full of attacking flair. Jack then added a fourth, his second of the match and Michael completed things with a neat finish after coming on again up front for his second spell. Ryan B came close to scoring showing some good touches up front. Luke kept a clean sheet in the second half with some solid goalkeeping.
It was a great win, but to have what was probably our best performance to date aswell, made it extra special. Choosing the Star Player was a very difficult decision, there were 11 contenders. But, Dominic thoroughly deserved it this week with a fine display of goalkeeping and then wing play.
Star Player = Dominic Furnival.
