Our game against Jean Le Inter was called off, so a hastily assembled team of parents of varying ages, shapes and sizes dug out their old boots so the boys' mid-season break didn't end on a low. Boasting no less than 3 OWFC managers, this was surely set to be a tactical masterclass; should the parents play in a diamond formation, have a false No.9 or put a player "in the hole"? were still under discussion whilst the boys got themselves quickly organised and started the game.

Boosted by a couple of Pilgrim u7's still fresh from their 4-4 draw earlier in the day, the boys looked even more determined than ever. So, after the parents got an early goal following some intricate passing, the boys picked up their game. The goals started to fly in at both ends and it was real end to end stuff from then on.

Cries from the parents of "Let the ball do the work" were gradually replaced with "Let the ball do ALL the work" were heard as the game wore on. At one point it even looked like a mannequin challenge was in full flow. That was with the clear exception of Carolyn (now you know why I didn't call it Dads v Lads) who showed a real touch of class combined with a great engine. Clearly Manager material me thinks........

The second half was nip and tuck and some strong (well, desperate) tackling by the parents on another day might have seen a couple of red cards! At 7-6 to the parents with a few minutes left, the boys got a deserved equaliser to take the game to penalties. It was another tight affair until Daniel coolly slotted in the winner to wild scenes of celebration. The boys collected their chocolate winners medals and selection boxes and didn't waste any time tucking in.

For the parents, it was on to the Bar. We may not have won the match but surely we could drink this lot under the table.
