Forbes edged in a thriller

Forbes continue to go from strength to strength and were very unfortunate not to get something out of this game. Mighty Royals had won two of their three previous games 14-0 so to come this close was a testament to how well we played.

After the first 5 minutes which saw Royals threaten down the right hand side with a very gifted player, we got into our stride and looked really solid from that point onwards. A defensive pairing of Luke and Sam were excellent and Henry provided extra cover although playing in a slightly more advanced role. Ryan V and Freddie played on each flank with Jack once again the lone striker. Dominic was solid again in goal. The 2-3-1 formation seems well ingrained on the boys and tactically we are very assured.

Going forward we were also excellent. Henry provided extra attacking threat and scored a cracker with Ryan V making it 2-0 before half time from a drilled, deflected corner.

The second half continued well but Royals were never out of it and started to pose a greater threat themselves. Michael took over the gloves from Dominic (who had a clean sheet to his credit) and the addition of Daniel, Max and Ryan B provided renewed energy and gave a well earned rest to others. Dominic also returned in an outfield role. It's important to say that all of the subs, whether not starting or coming off, played their part, shouting encouragement from the side. This is a real squad we have.

In the end Royals found their shooting boots and scored three well taken goals. Had it not been for some superb goalkeeping by Michael it could have been more. A particular eye-catching save high to his left was the pick of them.

It's very pleasing to see the progress we are making every week. They should all feel very proud.

Star player = Michael Baldwin (kept us in the match with fantastic saves in the second half).

As there was no match report last week, a special mention for last week's Star player, Sam Campbell. Well done Sam.
